Feeding Habits
Burchell's Starling consumes a varied diet of flowers, fruits, and small animals, often foraging in camelthorn trees. It exhibits unique preferences for camelthorn tree flowers, especially in the Kalahari, and breeds in summer.
Habitat
Burchell's Starling inhabits open woodlands and savannas within broader geographical regions that feature a mix of grassland and tree coverage. This species has a particular association with woodland areas where camelthorn (Acacia erioloba) and knobthorn (Acacia nigrescens) trees are prevalent. Typically found up to elevations of 1500 meters, burchell's Starling prefers lower altitudes in the eastern lowveld of its range, generally staying below 500 meters. It notably avoids miombo woodland, favoring environments within gusu woodlands to the west.
