Feeding Habits
Inca Tern's diet consists mainly of small fish like anchovies, captured through aerial dives. Notable for its specialized hunting technique, inca Tern exhibits a distinct foraging behavior characterized by a unique catlike mew call.
Habitat
Inca Tern typically inhabit areas along the marine coastline, particularly favoring rocky cliffs and guano islands where they can nest. These birds are also found nesting on sea cliffs, in burrows, or utilizing old nests of other seabirds like the Humboldt penguin. While inca Tern primarily reside on inshore guano islands, they can be encountered up to 67 km offshore. Their presence is marked in broader geographical regions that include rocky coastlines backed by cliffs, and at times, they adapt to artificial structures along these coastal habitats.
