Description
The austral negrito or Patagonian negrito (Lessonia rufa) is a species of bird in the family Tyrannidae. It breeds in Argentina and Chile, migrating north as far as Bolivia, southern Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay. It is a vagrant to the Falkland Islands and the South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands territory. Its natural habitats are freshwater lakes and saline marshes.

Feeding Habits
Austral Negrito preys on small insects like acarids, springtails, and dipterans, actively running and making short sallies to pursue prey. They often forage near livestock or humans, catching insects that are disturbed by their movement, and sometimes form loose flocks when not breeding.
Habitat
The habitat of austral Negrito predominantly consists of open regions characterized by short grasses. These birds frequently reside in environments adjacent to marshlands, coastal areas, lagoons, and beaches. Additionally, austral Negrito can be found inhabiting pasturelands. Broadly, these habitats span temperate zones.
