Description
The plain mountain finch (Leucosticte nemoricola) is a species of finch in the family Fringillidae. It is found in Afghanistan, Bhutan, China, India, Kazakhstan, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, Tibet, and Turkmenistan. Its natural habitat is temperate grassland and upland forest. It is a resident breeder across the Himalayas.

Feeding Habits
Plain Mountain Finch primarily consumes seeds from grasses and herbs, as well as small invertebrates. It forages on the ground or in trees, is known to accept scraps, and feeds in flocks that may align with other species. It exhibits coordinated flock movement during flight.
Habitat
Plain Mountain Finch typically inhabits submontane and montane regions characterized by open, boulder-strewn ridges, slopes, and plateaux. They are found in areas with alpine meadows, pastures interspersed with dwarf bushes, and scrub vegetation. During the non-breeding season, plain Mountain Finch reside in upper valley edges, mountain forests, rocky hillsides, along with areas of human cultivation, including rice paddies, fields, and village outskirts. Their habitat selection changes seasonally, often influenced by weather conditions.
