Description
The chestnut-capped piha (Lipaugus weberi) is a species of bird in the family Cotingidae. It is endemic to Colombia. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist montane forests. Severe declines in range and population are likely owing to continuing habitat loss and degradation, which has caused this species to be classified as critically endangered.

25 cm
Feeding Habits
Chestnut-capped Piha primarily consumes fruits, especially from Lauraceae and other families like Rubiaceae. It occasionally eats large invertebrates, capturing food in flight or while perched, and uniquely performs aerial 'pirouettes' to detach fruits. Chestnut-capped Piha may join mixed-species flocks for foraging.
Habitat
The chestnut-capped Piha primarily inhabits mature premontane wet forests as well as large cloud forests. This species shows preference for areas with some level of forest maturity and is generally not found in young secondary forests. It resides within regions characterized by substantial humidity and dense cloud cover, typical of the habitats it favors.
