Description
The chestnut-breasted mannikin (Lonchura castaneothorax), also known as the chestnut-breasted munia or bully bird (in Australia), is a small brown-backed munia with a black face and greyish crown and nape. It has a broad ferruginous breast bar above a white belly. The species is found in Australia, New Caledonia, Indonesia, and Papua New Guinea. This species has also been introduced to French Polynesia and France.

Feeding Habits
Chestnut-breasted Mannikin predominantly consume seeds, especially favoring barley, paspalum grass, bullrush millet, and sorghum. In flocks, they forage for seeds, showing preference for cereal crops during non-breeding seasons. They are known to feed on feral millet and wild sugar cane in Papua New Guinea.
Habitat
The habitat of chestnut-breasted Mannikin includes marshy terrains, particularly reed beds and mangrove edges, and stretches over grasslands, agricultural fields, and wetland ecosystems. These birds demonstrate ecological versatility, inhabiting everything from urban grassy patches to coastal savannas.
