Description
Smallish (11 cm), white headed brown finch. Similar to the chestnut munia but paler brown and entire head and throat white. Young birds are brown on upperparts with underparts and face buff. Iris-brown; bill-grey; feet-pale blue. Voice: high-pitched 'pee-pee'.

Feeding Habits
White-headed Munia primarily feeds on rice and grass seeds, employing ground foraging techniques. This species is noted for its adaptability in diet and foraging locations.
Habitat
The white-headed Munia thrives in a variety of open and semi-open landscapes, predominantly across grasslands, agricultural areas such as rice fields, and marshy environments that include reedbeds. This species is comfortable in both lowland and upland grassy habitats, and is often found in areas dominated by Imperata grasses. It adapts well to human-modified environments, including village gardens and cultivated lands. The white-headed Munia can be found from sea-level up to elevations of 1500 m, and it's not uncommon to observe large flocks finding refuge in reedbeds, especially during roosting periods.

It frequents marshes and reedbeds. Like other munias form large flocks during rice harvest but spread out in pairs during breeding season. General behaviour similar to other munias.
Distribution Area
Malay peninsula, Sumatra, Java, Bali and Celebes. In Java and Bali this is a fairly common and widespread bird up to 1500 m.
