Description
This tiny hummingbird measures 7–7.5 cm (2.8–3.0 in) and weighs 2.7 g (0.095 oz). The male has bronze-green upperparts with rufous crown and crest. White band on upper rump and bronze-purple lower rump. The throat is green while the face features short, orange cheek-tufts tipped green. A white band separates the throat from the rest of the underparts, which are pale cinnamon. The female lacks the male's crest and cheek patches.

Feeding Habits
Short-crested Coquette primarily feeds on nectar from flowers like Cecropia, Clethra, Conostegia, and Inga. It also consumes arthropods, delicately foraging among small blooms and exhibiting an adaption for varied floral resources.
Habitat
The short-crested Coquette predominantly inhabits varied forested environments, including semi-deciduous, humid evergreen, and pine-oak forests. These birds are also known to frequent forest plantations. They typically dwell in these habitats within the elevation range of 900 to 1800 meters, indicating a preference for certain altitudinal zones within broader forested regions.
