Description
Blue-crowned hanging parrots are mostly green and the adults have black beaks. Adult males have a blue crown, red throat, red rump, and a yellow lower back. Adult females are duller than males and lack the yellow lower back, usually lack the red throat, and the blue crown is much less noticeable. The juvenile is duller than the female, and has a grey forehead and horn-coloured beak.

Habitat
The habitat of blue-crowned Hanging Parrot encompasses diverse forested environments, including forest and forest edges, secondary growth regions, peatswamp and riverine forests, as well as bamboo clusters. Blue-crowned Hanging Parrot can also be found in the landward edges of mangroves, beach-strand woodlands with casuarinas, wooded gardens, coconut groves, and various plantations. Notably, blue-crowned Hanging Parrot tends to thrive in areas affected by selective logging more so than in untouched primary forests.
