Feeding Habits
Tufted Antshrike primarily consumes a variety of large insects, arthropods, snails, slugs, small vertebrates, and eggs. It forages individually or in pairs in dense vegetation, using a quick stabbing bill motion to glean food from surfaces or fluttering to reach distant prey.
Habitat
The tufted Antshrike typically resides in the understorey and mid-storey of evergreen forests, both lowland and foothill, as well as in secondary growth areas. Their preferred habitats are characterized by dense vegetation like vine tangles, thickets, bamboo stands, and even degraded forest patches. Moreover, tufted Antshrike can be found in overgrown orchards, eucalyptus stands, and banana plantations, especially those undergoing regeneration with dense bamboo.
