Feeding Habits
Rufous-crowned Babbler consumes insects like beetles, grasshoppers, and ants, with some seeds in its diet. Foraging predominantly in middle tree layers, rufous-crowned Babbler gleans foliage and avoids ground feeding. Often seen in pairs or small groups, sometimes alongside other babblers in mixed-species flocks.
Habitat
The habitat of rufous-crowned Babbler primarily includes extensive areas of broadleaf evergreen forests and mixed dipterocarp forests. These birds are also found in disturbed forests, areas with selective logging, and upland ridgetop forests with heath and stunted trees. Rufous-crowned Babbler inhabits transitional kerangas forests, tidal riverine swamp-forests, and certain plantation types such as abandoned rubber and older Albizia. Although preferring primary forests, rufous-crowned Babbler can occasionally be seen in mangroves, specifically in Sumatra.
