The Pacific screech owl (Megascops cooperi) is a species of owl in the family Strigidae. It is found in Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, and Nicaragua. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical dry forest, subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest, subtropical or tropical mangrove forest, and heavily degraded former forest.

Feeding Habits
Pacific Screech-owl primarily preys on large insects, moths, beetles, scorpions, and small rodents. It employs stealth and agility while hunting at dusk or night. Notably adapted for nocturnal predation, pacific Screech-owl exhibits a preference for a diverse carnivorous diet in its forest habitat.
Habitat
The pacific Screech-owl thrives in a variety of habitats, typically favoring midstory locales and edges of dry woodland and scrub. The species is also comfortable in second growth, lakeside fields, swampy forests, and close to mangroves. It inhabits regions from sea level up to 1,300 meters of elevation, with a presence reported mainly in broader geographical zones encompassing Mexico and Northern Central America.
