The Pacific screech owl (Megascops cooperi) is a species of owl in the family Strigidae. It is found in Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, and Nicaragua. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical dry forest, subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest, subtropical or tropical mangrove forest, and heavily degraded former forest.

Feeding Habits
Pacific Screech-owl primarily preys on large insects, moths, beetles, scorpions, and small rodents. It employs stealth and agility while hunting at dusk or night. Notably adapted for nocturnal predation, pacific Screech-owl exhibits a preference for a diverse carnivorous diet in its forest habitat.
Habitat
The pacific Screech-owl predominately occupies midstory areas and edges in dry woodlands and scrub lands. Its adaptable habitat includes deciduous broadleaf forests and semi-open landscapes such as savannas intermixed with diverse vegetation. The bird is also found in secondary growth, lakeside fields, and near mangroves, ranging from sea level up to 1,300 meters primarily across Mexico and Northern Central America.
