Description
The Cinnamon Screech Owl is a small, roughly 21-centimetre (8.3 in) long owl with a weight of 88 to 120 grams. It is tawny in colour, with streaks down the breast and mottling on the mantle and back. The flight feathers are barred, as are the tail feathers. It has dark brown eyes, a blue-gray bill, and medium-length ear tufts. No juvenile has ever been described.

The cinnamon Screech Owl inhabits humid montane forests. These environments are characterized by a high level of moisture and are typically comprised of dense tree coverage which offers conducive conditions for the cinnamon Screech Owl's survival. The bird occupies regions where it can coexist with similar species, albeit at different frequency levels within the same habitat.

Distribution Area
This owl is only known to occur in the eastern foothills of the Andes from southern Ecuador to northern Peru. It is also possible that it occurs in the eastern Andes of Colombia as well. Its main habitat is cloud forests, particularly at elevations of between 1,700 metres (5,600 ft) and 2,500 metres (8,200 ft) above sea level.
