Feeding Habits
Buff-necked Woodpecker primarily consumes ants and termites, often foraging in low to middle forest strata, bush, and overgrown areas by gleaning, probing, and pecking at wood. It feeds alone, with a partner, or in groups, and may join mixed-species flocks, visiting various foraging sites.
Habitat
The buff-necked Woodpecker's habitat consists primarily of primary and tall secondary evergreen and semi-evergreen forests, which are characterized by dense undergrowth and an abundance of rotting stumps. These birds also inhabit peat swamp forests but are less frequently found at forest edges and clearings. They reside predominantly in the lowland forests of mainland Southeast Asia and the Greater Sunda Islands.
