Feeding Habits
Marico Flycatcher primarily feeds on insects such as termites, caterpillars, ants, beetles, flies, grasshoppers, and also consumes spiders, slugs, and small fruits. It forages from perches around 2 meters high, scanning for prey to catch on the ground or in midair. Attracted to burnt areas, marico Flycatcher doesn't require drinking water.
Habitat
Marico Flycatcher predominantly resides in dry savanna landscapes characterized by Acacia woodlands with tall thorn bushes. Favored environments feature sparsely grassed areas or exposed ground. Although they adapt to habitats with denser foliage during summer, they prefer more open spaces like shrubby fallow fields in the non-breeding season. These birds avoid dense miombo, mopane, or Baikiaea forests, unless acacia is present.
