Description
Bred for numerous vibrant colors in captivity, the budgerigar only appears in wild populations in green—this way it camouflages best with surroundings. One of the most abundant parrot species in Australia, the "budgie" is a sociable bird that moves around in huge flocks. This nomadic species is able to fly hundreds of kilometers in search of food but it never ventures too far from water.

Feeding Habits
Budgerigar primarily consume seeds, including spinifex, grass, and occasionally wheat. Their foraging often occurs on the ground. Notable is their opportunistic eating during harvests, showcasing an adaptive diet preference.
Habitat
Budgerigar thrive in a range of open environments across the broader geographical expanse of Australian habitats. Their preferred settings include scrublands, open woodlands, and grasslands. Budgerigar is adaptable to various terrains from savanna and mallee regions to arid scrublands and the peripheries of deserts dotted with mulga (Acacia aneura). While they display resilience to water scarcity, they are usually found in proximity to water sources.
