Description
It is on average 15cm long and weighs 28g. The adult has a stubby dark-grey bill, unstreaked olive-brown upperparts, a rufous crown and mainly white underparts. Young birds are browner above, have yellower underparts, and a duller indistinct head pattern. The rufous of the crown extends to behind the eye and is bordered on its anterior edge with black. This black border is broken by a white eye ring. The forehead is white, bordered below with a thin black line, there is a black malar stripe, and a black central breast patch.

Feeding Habits
Cabanis's Ground-sparrow primarily consumes seeds and small insects. It forages on the ground, employing a peck-and-scratch method, and has a particular inclination for certain seeds, denoting a dietary preference.
Habitat
Cabanis's Ground-sparrow typically inhabits dense undergrowth, thriving in a range of secondary growth vegetation from scrubby areas to woodlands. These birds are adapted to environments on the edge of forests, as well as human-modified landscapes like coffee plantations and hedgerows. Broadly, cabanis's Ground-sparrow is associated with ecological zones featuring thick cover, which offers both protection and foraging opportunities, prevalent across tropical and subtropical regions.
