Description
The Tyrian metaltail (Metallura tyrianthina) is a species of hummingbird in the family Trochilidae. It is found in Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist montane forest and heavily degraded former forest.

Tyrian Metaltail primarily feeds on nectar from various flowering plants, complementing its diet with insects caught midair. It exhibits hover-flight feeding and sometimes pierces flowers to access nectar, with males defending feeding territories.
Habitat
The tyrian Metaltail thrives in moist forests and cloud forests, favoring environments with mossy scrub at high altitudes. It also inhabits areas with elfin forest and Tilandsia-covered woodlands in semi-arid valleys, and moves between treeline habitats to lower páramo zones, particularly where brush is common.
