  Feeding Habits
Slaty-backed Forest-falcon primarily preys on birds like Dusky-faced Tanager and small reptiles such as lizards and snakes, employing stealthy hunting techniques to capture their prey.
    Habitat
Slaty-backed Forest-falcon inhabits lowland tropical rainforests, favoring areas that are often less disturbed and commonly near streams or rivers. These birds are also found in tall secondary forests and, on occasion, in more open spaces. In regions shared with M. semitorquatus, slaty-backed Forest-falcon typically resides in the canopy or upper forest levels. However, slaty-backed Forest-falcon is predominantly an understorey dweller in other habitats. Its range is primarily from sea level to around 500 meters, with most sightings below 200 meters.
