Feeding Habits
Philippine Falconet primarily consumes insects, especially dragonflies and lepidopterans, occasionally adding arboreal lizards to its diet. It hunts from prominent perches, performing swift aerial attacks without pursuit if the initial strike fails. Philippine Falconet can hunt cooperatively in groups of up to six, potentially for predation defense and offspring training.
Habitat
Philippine Falconet thrives in subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests, with a preference for both primary and secondary growth. This species is typically found in open wet forests and forest edges, often near rivers and streams. Philippine Falconet is known to inhabit a range of elevations from sea level up to 1500 meters, but predominantly resides between 300 to 1200 meters. The bird favors perching on conspicuous branches of dead trees to hunt for flying insects and usually nests in abandoned woodpecker holes.
