Description
The chestnut-bellied rock thrush (Monticola rufiventris) is a species of bird in the family Muscicapidae. It is found in the northern regions of the Indian subcontinent, eastwards towards parts of Southeast Asia. Its range includes Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Tibet, Laos, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Thailand, and Vietnam. Its natural habitat is temperate forests.

Chestnut-bellied Rock Thrush primarily consumes insects like craneflies and cicadas, along with molluscs, small lizards, and occasionally berries. Forages mainly on the ground and in bare trees, with the occasional aerial sally.
Habitat

These environments are often characterized by their rugged terrain, featuring steep cliffs, boulders, streambeds, and forest edges with dense shrubbery. They are also found in areas with degraded open spaces and pastures, favoring regions with fir, pine, and cedar stands. During certain seasons, chestnut-bellied Rock Thrush occupies evergreen forest peripheries, scrublands, and rocky outcroppings. The bird thrives in broad geographical regions with these habitat characteristics.
