Feeding Habits
Black-fronted Ground Tyrant primarily consumes insects and occasionally feeds on Cumulopuntia boliviana fruits in winter. This terrestrial forager employs short runs and hops, less often making sallies from the ground or rocks. Winter behavior includes solitary roosting, at times in caves with M. rufivertex.
Habitat
Black-fronted Ground Tyrant typically thrives in puna grasslands and barren, stony hillsides with sparsely distributed vegetation. Often found in proximity to water sources, these birds favor environments characterized by a mix of shrubbery, such as Baccharis, cacti like Cumulopuntia, and grasses including Festuca and Parastrephia. They habituate broader geographical highland regions within their climatic tolerance.
