Description
The spot-winged grosbeak (Mycerobas melanozanthos) is a species of finch in the family Fringillidae, found in middle to higher elevations. It is found in the Indian subcontinent and parts of Southeast Asia. Its range includes Bhutan, India, Laos, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Thailand, Tibet and Vietnam. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical dry forests and subtropical or tropical moist montane forests.

Feeding Habits
Spot-winged Grosbeak primarily feeds on seeds and berries, including cherry and Myrica seeds, while discarding the fruit pulp. It also consumes deodar buds and maple seeds. Spot-winged Grosbeak forages in trees, bushes, and on the ground, and can be either approachable or shy. It often feeds in pairs or groups, making noise by cracking seeds.
Habitat
The spot-winged Grosbeak predominantly inhabits lower montane and submontane forests, comprising a variety of tree species such as fir, birch, hemlock, and maple. In its natural environment, spot-winged Grosbeak tends to favor evergreen and mixed forest landscapes. During the non-breeding season, it also occupies similar habitats at lower altitudes, including deciduous forests.
