Description
The ash-breasted antbird (Myrmoborus lugubris) is an insectivorous bird in the antbird family, Thamnophilidae. It is found in Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests. The ash-breasted antbird was described by the German ornithologist Jean Cabanis in 1847 and given the binomial name Myrmonax lugubris. The current genus Myrmoborus was introduced in 1860.

The ash-breasted Antbird typically resides in dense undergrowth present within Amazonian river island ecosystems and mainland riverbanks, favoring areas with a rich diversity of foliage, including Heliconia, Costus, Piper, and varied species of leguminous trees. Their habitat encompasses both secondary woodlands with trees like Cecropia and older, more diverse forests. They have also adapted to environments with intricate vine networks found along the margins of igapó forests.
