Feeding Habits
Orange-breasted Myzomela primarily feeds on nectar, targeting a variety of flowers, and consumes arthropods, including spiders and insects. Orange-breasted Myzomela forages actively at all forest levels, employing techniques like probing, sally-hovering, and occasionally piercing flowers. In nectar-scarce environments, it is more insectivorous. Typically solitary or in small groups, orange-breasted Myzomela may congregate in larger numbers in rich floral zones, despite being outcompeted by larger species.
Habitat
The orange-breasted Myzomela inhabits a wide range of environments, thriving in both primary and secondary forests, including lowland and hill areas, as well as coastal forests and mangroves. It is commonly found in disturbed areas such as roadsides, clearings, plantations, agricultural lands, and urban settings like towns and gardens. Orange-breasted Myzomela also adapts to landscapes with scattered trees in open country. The bird's presence tends to decrease with the maturation of forests, being rarer in mid to late-successional forest stages.
