Feeding Habits
Large Niltava's diet consists primarily of invertebrates and berries, with a penchant for large crickets and even small snakes. It feeds alone or in pairs, displaying a sluggish demeanor, but becomes more active at dusk. Feeding occurs within forest undergrowth to mid-canopy, frequently in dimly lit areas near trails or streams, occasionally hunting insects mid-flight or consuming larger prey on the ground. Large Niltava shows occasional wing and tail flicks when disturbed.
Habitat
The large Niltava is commonly found in dense, mature, moist hill, submontane and montane broadleaf forests. It is also seen in the large wooded gardens of the Malay Peninsula’s hill stations. These habitats are characterized by substantial tree cover providing moisture retention and a stable environment, which is crucial for the large Niltava's survival and nesting. The large Niltava's habitat stretches across broader geographical regions of Southeast Asia and parts of South China, without regard to specific elevation ranges.
