Description
The small niltava (Niltava macgrigoriae) is a species of bird in the family Muscicapidae, native to the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia. It is found in Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Laos, Myanmar, Nepal, Thailand, Tibet and Vietnam. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist montane forests.

Feeding Habits
Small Niltava predominantly feeds on small invertebrates and fruits, foraging mainly in the understory. Adapted to a varied diet, small Niltava's consumption habits significantly contribute to the ecosystem by dispersing seeds and controlling insect populations.
Habitat
Small Niltava typically inhabits the forested edges and clearings of humid broadleaf evergreen forests, favoring areas with dense undergrowth such as shrubberies and bushes found along paths. These forests are part of submontane and montane zones within broader geographical regions that experience significant moisture, promoting lush vegetative growth. During the non-breeding season, small Niltava can also be found in dense reed beds and grassy areas with scattered trees, extending to lower elevation habitats that still offer dense cover and similar environmental conditions.
