Feeding Habits
Pied Puffbird primarily consumes invertebrates. It employs a sit-and-wait hunting strategy, typically from a high perch, to ambush prey. This puffbird species is a specialized carnivore with a notable preference for a variety of insects and other small invertebrates.
Habitat
Pied Puffbird typically resides in tropical and subtropical environments, favoring habitats such as lowland humid evergreen forests, forest edges, clearings near streams, and second growth with tall trees. It is also found in mangroves, savannas, gallery and riverine forests, and pastures within wooded regions. Pied Puffbird generally prefers the canopy and subcanopy layers of the forest. Its habitat range extends to degraded woodland areas and plantations. Geographically, pied Puffbird occupies broad regions across tropical zones, usually below 300 meters elevation, yet it can be found up to 1000 meters in certain areas.
