Description
The band-tailed nighthawk (Nyctiprogne leucopyga) is a species of nightjar in the family Caprimulgidae. It is found in Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, and Venezuela. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest, rivers, and swamps.

The band-tailed Nighthawk typically inhabits regions near water bodies like rivers, marshes, and oxbow lakes, thriving in environments such as lowland evergreen forests, gallery forests, and grasslands. Their preference leans towards blackwater rivers and streams in Amazonian areas; however, they are also found over whitewater rivers close to blackwater systems.
