Feeding Habits
Crested Pigeon, a ground-foraging bird, predominantly feeds on native seeds, cultivated grains, and various weeds. It supplements its diet with leaves and insects, showcasing opportunistic feeding behavior. Unique for its preference for gritty seeds, crested Pigeon is well-adapted to a dry environment diet.
Habitat
Crested Pigeon's habitat spans lightly wooded grasslands and a variety of human-altered landscapes, including pastoral areas, homestead gardens, and recreational grounds such as sports fields and golf courses. While crested Pigeon historically occupied chiefly arid and semi-arid regions, the species has broadened its range following the clearing of dense coastal forests and the creation of livestock watering holes. Now, crested Pigeon inhabits most geographic regions, excluding the extremely arid, treeless deserts and the thickest forests across the broader continental area.

Behavior
Their most distinctive behaviour is the beating and whistling sound their wings make when they take off. This is most likely to draw the attention of predators to birds on the wing, and away from any birds remaining on the ground, and as an alarm call to other pigeons. Although they can be seen in pairs, they can be highly social and tend to be seen in flocks. They are highly gregarious birds when in contact with humans.
Distribution Area
Their habitat has expanded rapidly since settlement has produced pastoral lands (previously they were only found in inland and Western Australia).
