Description
The black-breasted wood quail (Odontophorus leucolaemus) is a bird species in the family Odontophoridae. It is found in Costa Rica and Panama. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist montane forest.

Feeding Habits
Black-breasted Wood-quail, a terrestrial forager, primarily consumes insects, nuts, and various plants. These birds exhibit a unique adaptation for scratching the forest floor in search of food, typically feeding at dawn or dusk to avoid predators.
Habitat
Black-breasted Wood-quail thrives in the interior of tropical and subtropical forests at elevations ranging from 700 to 1850 meters. Preferring dense vegetation on the forest floor, this species is commonly found among scrub and entangled vines, and it is also known to inhabit areas of second growth and forest borders. Although it roosts in the lower canopy often in communal groups, black-breasted Wood-quail predominantly resides within the thickest parts of the forest habitat.
