The tawny-throated dotterel (Oreopholus ruficollis) is a species of bird in the family Charadriidae. It is placed in the genus Oreopholus, which is monotypic as regards living species. A prehistoric relative, Oreopholus orcesi, has been described from fossil remains. It breeds in the Andes in Argentina, Bolivia, Chile and Peru. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical dry shrubland, temperate grassland, subtropical or tropical high-altitude grassland, and pastureland.

Feeding Habits
Tawny-throated Dotterel's diet includes beetles, evidenced by stomach content analysis. In non-breeding seasons, it forms flocks of 10-100 for communal feeding. When threatened, tawny-throated Dotterel uses disruptive camouflage by presenting its striped back.
Habitat
The tawny-throated Dotterel is predominantly found in windy, semi-arid open habitats such as heathlands and overgrazed grasslands. It utilizes sandy areas with minimal vegetation and seasonally inhabits coastal plains and parts of the coastal desert that are subject to irrigation. During migration, it can also be observed in fields and meadows within lowland regions.
