Description
The tanager finch (Oreothraupis arremonops) is a songbird species. In the recent past it was placed in the Emberizidae, and then classified as its common name implies, a kind of tanager (Thraupidae). Today, it has been placed in the family Passerellidae, which was formerly considered to be part of the Emberizidae. It is the only species in the monotypic genus Oreothraupis. It is found in Colombia and Ecuador, where its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist montane forests. It is threatened by habitat loss.

Feeding Habits
Tanager Finch forages primarily on the ground or near it, searching through moist undergrowth and leaf litter beneath low shrubs in mossy forests. This bird exhibits a secretive nature and often scratches at leaf litter, typically feeding in pairs or family groups.
Habitat
The tanager Finch predominantly inhabits the undergrowth of montane forests, with a preference for often mossy cloud forests. These environments are characterized by dense vegetation and a moist, temperate climate that supports a rich biodiversity, including the specific flora that provides food resources and shelter for the tanager Finch.
