The East Brazilian chachalaca (Ortalis araucuan) is a species of bird in the family Cracidae. It is found in forests in the Atlantic forests in eastern Brazil. It was previously considered a subspecies of the speckled chachalaca.
Feeding Habits
East Brazilian Chachalaca primarily feeds on fruits, with a diet likely akin to related chachalacas. Typically forages in small flocks and roosts nearby, indicating a sociable feeding behavior.
Habitat
East Brazilian Chachalaca predominantly inhabits a variety of forested environments. These include regions of secondary forest growth, the dry scrubland forests known as caatinga, and the coastal sandy plains termed restinga. Additionally, east Brazilian Chachalaca is also commonly found in the biodiverse Atlantic Forest regions, which are characterized by their dense, lush vegetation and complex forest structure.
