Description
The white-bellied chachalaca (Ortalis leucogastra) is a species of bird in the family Cracidae. It is found in Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, and Nicaragua. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical dry forest, subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest, and heavily degraded former forest.

Feeding Habits
White-bellied Chachalaca primarily feeds on berries, fruits, leaves, buds, and flowers, supplemented with invertebrates. It forages in groups, mainly in the morning or late afternoon. Unique adaptations include a preference for certain fruit varieties, aiding seed dispersal.
Habitat
White-bellied Chachalaca inhabits a variety of forested environments including swampy forests with undergrowth like coyol palm, dense thickets, second-growth scrub, and also dry forests. They are found at the edges of pastures, plantations, and in mangrove forests, typically in lower tropical zones of the Pacific slope. While white-bellied Chachalaca is most commonly seen on coastal plains, it can also reside in hilly regions up to approximately 1500 meters in elevation.
