Description
Unmistakable thrush-like, ground-dwelling, birds. Males and females largely dark brown with white eye-ring, tail-feather shafts extend as spines beyond feather-vanes; males with white throat, breast and belly; females with bright rufous throat and upper breast, white lower breast and belly.

Chowchilla primarily forages on the forest floor for invertebrates and occasionally small vertebrates, using unique ground-poking techniques to uncover prey.
Habitat
Chowchilla typically inhabits tropical rainforests characterized by a primary forest composition as well as regions of regrowth that approximate two to three decades old. These environments are distinguished by their dense undergrowth. The bird is predominantly associated with areas that experience a high volume of rainfall.
