Description
The cinereous becard (Pachyramphus rufus) is a species of bird in the family Tityridae. The term cinereous describes its colouration. It has traditionally been placed in Cotingidae or Tyrannidae, but evidence strongly suggest it is better placed in Tityridae, where it is now placed by the South American Classification Committee. Feeding Habits
Cinereous Becard predominantly consumes arthropods and caterpillars, supplemented with small fruits and berries. Its foraging habit often involves gleaning from foliage. Cinereous Becard exhibits a distinctive preference for mixed dietary items ranging from insects to plant matter.
Habitat
The cinereous Becard largely inhabits dry to moist environments, favoring regions like light, open scrubby secondary woodlands and clearings with tall trees. It is also found in lowland deciduous woodlands, areas with low scrub, and cultivated pastures featuring scattered trees. Additionally, the cinereous Becard resides in riparian woodlands, mangroves, and forest borders, generally avoiding continuous primary forests and showing a preference for drier areas. Its habitat range extends up to 1500 meters above sea level across broad geographical zones.
