Description
The great swallow-tailed swift (Panyptila sanctihieronymi) is a species of swift in the family Apodidae. It is found in Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, and Nicaragua. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist montane forests, subtropical or tropical high-altitude shrubland, and heavily degraded former forest.

Feeding Habits
Great Swallow-tailed Swift primarily consumes small insects and arachnids, catching prey mid-flight using adept aerial hunting techniques. This species exhibits specialized feeding behavior that leverages its agile flight abilities, preferring to forage during twilight hours.
Habitat
The great Swallow-tailed Swift is typically found in arid to semi-arid highlands and interior valleys, commonly ranging from 600 to 2000 meters in elevation. It often inhabits areas with rugged terrain featuring canyons and large cliff faces, where it forages, and may locally wander to humid lowland regions. Occasionally, the great Swallow-tailed Swift can also be observed over urban landscapes. The bird mostly stays above 1000 meters but may descend to around 500 meters in certain interior valleys.
