Feeding Habits
Brown-winged Kingfisher forages primarily on crabs and fish, utilizing perches in mangroves to spot and snatch prey. It captures crabs by landing on mudflats and dives for fish. Prey is beaten on a perch before swallowing, and brown-winged Kingfisher may forage in surf, braving waves to secure food.
Habitat
The habitat of brown-winged Kingfisher predominantly encompasses coastal regions, thriving particularly in aged mangrove forests. These birds are commonly associated with tidal ecosystems, including mudflats, estuaries, and calm brackish waterways. Their preference lies with quieter rocky shorelines and they can occasionally be spotted further inland along major rivers or surrounding wooded lake areas.
