Feeding Habits
Great-billed Kingfisher primarily consumes crabs and crayfish, employing a sit-and-wait strategy by perching over water to spot prey. It dives to capture its food, which is then beaten on a perch before swallowing.
Habitat
The habitat of great-billed Kingfisher encompasses subtropical and tropical ecosystems, primarily thriving in mangrove forests, estuaries, and wooded seashores. They adapt to coastal environments, from sea cliffs and islets to villages with enough trees. Inland, they frequent riverside woodlands and agricultural areas with light woods. Their altitude tolerance ranges from sea level to 600 meters, sometimes up to 980 meters in protected areas.
