Description
The red-faced guan (Penelope dabbenei) is a species of bird in the family Cracidae. It is found in the border region of northern Argentina and in the southern border region of Bolivia. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist montane forest.
Size
69 cm
Feeding Habits
Red-faced Guan primarily eats fruits like Ilex argentina and Viburnum seemenii, leaves, and arthropods. They forage in trees and on the ground, typically in pairs or family groups.
Habitat
The red-faced Guan typically resides in expansive, steep cloud forests where large trees, such as cedars, Eugenia, and Blepharocalyx, prevail. At higher forest elevations, it is associated with species like the alder, Podocarpus parlatorei, and Tabebuia lapacho, with occasional occurrences amongst Polylepis woods. The species is also seen in younger secondary growth rich with narrow-stemmed bamboo and smaller forest patches in broad geographical regions of the eastern Andes. It maintains a habitat separated from elevation-specific details, focusing on the general environmental conditions and forest types, ensuring a well-structured description exclusive to the bird's habitat.
Dite type
Frugivorous
