Feeding Habits
Spix's Guan primarily consumes small fruits from various palms and seeds, favoring ripe, soft fruit. With a diet comprising 34 recorded plant species, spix's Guan forages in middle to upper tree strata or on the ground in Peru, occasionally following army ants and consuming earthworms.
Habitat
The habitat of spix's Guan primarily encompasses humid rainforests and cloud forests of the tropical zone, covering terra firme and seasonally flooded lands. It is notably more abundant in terra firme. Spix's Guan also occupies forest edges, areas with scattered trees resulting from slash-and-clear activities, as well as secondary and gallery forests. They have a habitat segregation pattern with closely related species, favoring moister and primary forests compared to counterparts in drier or secondary woodlands.
