Description
The scale-throated hermit (Phaethornis eurynome) is a species in the hummingbird family, Trochilidae. It is found in the Atlantic forest in north-eastern Argentina, south-eastern Brazil, and eastern Paraguay. It is generally fairly common, and consequently considered to be of least concern by BirdLife International and IUCN. The supposed "black-billed hermit", described as P. nigrirostris, has turned out to be a mutant P. eurynome with an all-black bill.

Feeding Habits
Scale-throated Hermit primarily feeds on nectar from a variety of plants, including Heliconia and Salvia, and supplements its diet with small arthropods. It employs trap-lining, a foraging method that involves visiting flowers in a set route.
Habitat
The scale-throated Hermit typically inhabits the understorey of rainforests, favoring both lowland and montane regions. It is prevalent in humid areas within semi-deciduous forests, particularly in the southwestern part of its range. The species is also found in mature secondary growth. In the northern sections of its habitat, it is commonly associated with mountainous areas.
