Description
The streak-throated hermit (Phaethornis rupurumii), also known as the Rupurumi hermit, is a species of hummingbird in the family Trochilidae. It was formerly considered a subspecies of the dusky-throated hermit. The streak-throated hermit is found in forest, woodland and dense shrub in north-eastern South America. It has two subspecies; the nominate subspecies is found in south-eastern Venezuela, west-central Guyana, and the extreme northern Brazil Amazon Basin (especially near the lower Negro and Branco Rivers), and the subspecies amazonicus is found near the lower Amazon River in the river corridor in Brazil's eastern Amazon Basin, as well as upstream, some distance along the Tapajos River corridor. It is a small hermit with a total length of approximately 9 cm, both subspecies have very pale buff-grey underparts and dark streaks on the throat.

Feeding Habits
Streak-throated Hermit sustains primarily on nectar and small arthropods, showcasing a diversified diet. It feeds through intricate foraging, utilizing specialized adaptations for nectar extraction. Unique preferences or adaptations remain unspecified but follow general hermit feeding patterns.
Habitat
Streak-throated Hermit typically inhabits the understorey of diverse forested environments, ranging from the edges of rainforests to várzea forests. It is also found in semi-deciduous, gallery forests, and in isolated patches of forest known as 'forest islands' within non-forest landscapes. In addition, it occupies various drier habitats including thickets, secondary growth, and scrublands. Streak-throated Hermit resides across broader tropical regions, particularly around the lower Amazon, where it dwells in 'campos islands' featuring vegetation that thrives under drier conditions.
