Feeding Habits
Purple-throated Woodstar primarily subsists on nectar, complementing its diet with invertebrates. It adeptly hovers to feed from flowers, often at dawn or dusk. Purple-throated Woodstar possesses a specialized long tongue for nectar extraction, showing a preference for certain floral species.
Habitat
Purple-throated Woodstar favors the misty montane realms, predominantly residing in tropical cloud forests. These habitats are typified by humid and mossy environments, enveloped in persistent fog, offering the dense foliage and abundant flowering plants that purple-throated Woodstar relies on. It thrives in varied elevations, particularly from coastal regions up to heights of 2400 meters, and often frequents the treetops for foraging. While purple-throated Woodstar can adapt to forest edges, its core preference is undisturbed primary forests, where it can exploit the highest strata of the canopy.
