Feeding Habits
White-throated Redstart primarily consumes insects, especially in summer, and supplements its diet with berries and seeds in winter, often from Hippophae and Juniperus. It displays a foraging behavior that involves making short flights from a perch to catch food.
Habitat
White-throated Redstart typically inhabits subalpine regions characterized by open and dry conditions. Its preferred environments include park-like forests with scrub oak and dwarf juniper, as well as areas undergoing regeneration post-fire. The species is commonly found amongst pine-cypress woodlands and fir forests interspersed with birch and rhododendron, alongside bushy terrains containing Caragana, Lonicera, Berberis, and Rosa. During winter months, white-throated Redstart occupies similar habitats, but also can be found in leafless birch stretches, open meadows, scrub-covered stony hillsides, and even areas around villages.
