Description
The Canary Islands chiffchaff is similar to the common chiffchaff and the Iberian chiffchaff but compared to the common chiffchaff it has a longer bill, shorter wings and a longer tail. Its underparts have a brownish-buff tone, especially on the flanks and breast, and the upperparts are darker brown than the common chiffchaff.

Canary Islands Chiffchaff consumes small insects and plant nectar, including from native and introduced species like Isoplexis canariensis and Agave americana. Canary Islands Chiffchaff's dietary adaptions include a preference for specific endemic flora, showcasing a specialized feeding behavior tailored to its habitat.
Habitat
The canary Islands Chiffchaff is versatile, residing in a range of habitats that include coastal gardens, bushy terrains, and agricultural peripheries. This bird species frequents both pine forests and mixed woodlands, and it's capable of adapting to live from sea level up to the tree-line. While the nominate subspecies is commonly found in human-altered landscapes such as gardens and cultivated areas, it avoids the semi-desert scrub at lower elevations. Another subspecies, known as exsul, occupies niches amid cultivation, euphorbia and cactus scrub, fig trees, and shrublands.
