Description
The golden-spangled piculet (Picumnus exilis) is a species of bird in the family Picidae. It is found in Brazil, Colombia, French Guiana, Guyana, Suriname, and Venezuela. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests and heavily degraded former forest.

Feeding Habits
Golden-spangled Piculet predominantly consumes ants. It forages inconspicuously, alone or with a mate, and sometimes participates in mixed-species flocks. Golden-spangled Piculet pecks and hammers at small branches within 1–5 meters of the forest floor, often hanging on thin twigs like a tit.
Habitat
Golden-spangled Piculet inhabits a variety of forested environments, including primary rainforests, secondary growths, and areas of disturbed forest. It is also found in thickets associated with bamboo along riverbanks and in coastal mangrove ecosystems. In addition to denser woodlands, golden-spangled Piculet can be observed at the edges of open woodlands and savannas, particularly in regions characterized by sandy soils.
