Description
The laced woodpecker (Picus vittatus) is a species of bird in the family Picidae. It is found throughout Southeast Asia in the countries of Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. A sole specimen recorded for Bangladesh has since been reidentified as a streak-breasted woodpecker. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical dry forest, subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest, subtropical or tropical mangrove forest, and subtropical or tropical moist montane forest.

Feeding Habits
Laced Woodpecker mainly consumes beetles and flies. This bird forages alone or with a mate, utilizing pecking and probing techniques on tree trunks, ground, and bamboo nodes. It uniquely sweeps debris and probes soil or mud to feed, showing a preference for the lower parts of trees and mangroves.
Habitat
The laced Woodpecker primarily inhabits a variety of wooded environments including deciduous and evergreen forests, areas of secondary growth, and bamboo stands. They are also found in human-modified landscapes such as plantations and suburban gardens. This species shows a preference for relatively open coastal forests and scrublands, which can encompass vegetation like casuarinas, mangroves, and coconut groves. In regions with overlapping species, it tends to be confined to mangroves and drier woodlands.
