  The red-headed tanager (Piranga erythrocephala), is a medium-sized American songbird. Formerly placed in the tanager family (Thraupidae), other members of its genus and it are now classified in the cardinal family (Cardinalidae). The species's plumage and vocalizations are similar to other members of the cardinal family. Along with the white-winged tanager and red-hooded tanager, it is sometimes placed in the genus Spermagra. It is endemic to Mexico, where its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist montane forests.

  Feeding Habits 
  Red-headed Tanager consumes a diet primarily consisting of insects and small fruits, including blackberries and berries from the Solanum genus. They exhibit foraging behaviors that involve searching foliage for food and may have unique preferences for particular types of berries. 
    Habitat 
  Red-headed Tanager primarily inhabits semi-humid and moist montane forests, often in pine-oak woodlands, and can also be found in semi-deciduous and evergreen forests. These birds favor areas mixed with open woodland and scrub, including forest edges and plantations. They are typically found at elevations ranging from 900 meters to approximately 2600 meters in broader mountainous regions.
